In the 9-year period from 2005 to 2013, Pit Bulls killed 176 Americans and accounted for 62% of the total recorded deaths (283). Combined, Pit Bulls and Rottweilers accounted for 74% of these deaths (source Dogbites.0rg) despite being banned in military housing and regulated in over 600 U.S. cities.
And despite the fact Pit Bulls being only 5% of the dog population. In other words a Pit Bull is over 12 times more likely to kill your child than other breeds, the next worst being Rottweilers and in 2013 18 times more likely to kill you the owner, than other breeds.
Also bear in mind that dog bites occur every 75 seconds in the United States. Each day, over 1,000 citizens need emergency medical care to treat these injuries. So while Pit Bulls are maybe killing 18-20 people every year, they are also savaging many, many thousands of children, a big chunk of who will bear those scars, both emotional and physical, the rest of their lives.
Think about these appalling statistics before you bring a Pit Bull into your home. Have a neighbor who has one running loose? – call the Police, each and every time you see it. Make a record of your calls – then shoot the horrible thing on your property. I’m not a lawyer but I am a former Chief-Of-Police in a small municipality where dog complaints were a high percentage of the calls. My state’s DEP commissioner once said that any person can kill any dog if they’re threatened in any place where they have a right to be. So the record of your calls combined with the fact that the incident occurred on your property should be an affirmative defense.
So kill it before it injures or kills you or yours. Don’t believe the nonsense you hear that “I raised it from a pup so I know it’s gentle.” or “it’s only bad breeders.” Certain idiots will always put their dog over you or your child because in their a minds no matter what the dog does, it wouldn’t be their fault. But instead something you or your child did. So kill it. Haven’t the stomach? Call a man. You must know at least one.
